Separate the game server from Rust+
A playable Rust server is not necessarily reachable through Rust+. The companion connection has its own port. If RustAlarm shows the server as offline, first open that server in the official Rust+ app and check whether the map and team load.
If the official app cannot connect either, investigate the server, its companion configuration or pairing. If the official app works but RustAlarm does not, check the account and server connection in the web dashboard.
Check Pair and the Steam account
Join the server in game and use ESC → Rust+ → Pair with Server. Use the same Steam account you connected to RustAlarm, then refresh the server list on the website.
Signing in to the website does not pair every game server automatically. If the server identity changed or player tokens were reset after a wipe, pair again. An ordinary wipe alone does not prove that the token has changed.
Checks for server administrators
Facepunch documents that the companion server needs a publicly reachable TCP port. Use app.info to inspect the actual settings, then check the firewall and port forwarding. Do not assume that the game or RCON port is also the companion port.
If the official Rust+ app reports the server offline, check outbound access to companion-rust.facepunch.com and companion connectivity-test errors in the server logs. Players without administrator access should contact the server owner.
Avoid risky shortcuts
Do not publish player tokens, Pair details or companion.id in a public chat. Facepunch warns that copying or deleting companion.id can disrupt Rust+ and notifications for players.
Reinstalling Telegram or your browser will not open a blocked companion port. Locate the failing stage first: official Rust+, pairing or the RustAlarm connection.
Verify the whole chain
After pairing again, check that the server appears in the dashboard and that previously paired Smart Alarms and other devices are available. Re-pair devices that no longer appear.
Before relying on base protection, safely trigger a Smart Alarm and separately test the call. An online server status proves connectivity, not end-to-end alert delivery.
